It’s that time again: The winter weather predictions for Evansville and the surrounding region are finally here!

NOAA Winter Weather Prediction

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its winter weather prediction for our region last week. Of course, it looked at the chances of getting an El Nino effect. They say that there is a 70-75 percent chance of El Nino. That would mean warmer than usual winter weather for the U.S., but not always for the Ohio Valley. Consequently for Evansville, they are saying there is an equal chance of a cold winter as there is for a warm winter. We’re guessing NOAA’s predictions to be spot on. In all seriousness though, this area is historically a complicated area for which to make predictions.

The Farmers’ Almanac Winter Weather Prediction

This year, the Farmers’ Almanac says that Indiana should expect “biting cold” with more snow than usual. It says that Thanksgiving should bring clearer conditions, but Christmas will bring a wintery mix. It predicts heavy rain and heavy snow for our area between january 12 and January 15 and a big snowstorm between February 1 and February 3. That is good news for Evansville sledding at least!
