To fill the need for affordable housing in Evansville, the city would need 5,000 more apartments. Still, a newly finished low-income housing project was dedicated on Monday. The dedication ceremony was held by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and other officials at the Carpenter Court Apartment site.

The building was once St. Joseph Catholic School which was owned by the Catholic Diocese of Evansville. Now, it will provide 45 more units of affordable housing in Evansville.

The apartment building is only available to tenants who earn 30 to 60 percent of the area’s median income. Rents will range in price from between $298 and $720 per month.

It’s not just a housing opportunity though. The site will also feature a Head Start facility on the first floor.

Additionally, WorkOne, Meals on Wheels, SWIRCA, Carver Community Organization, ECHO, Hope of Evansville, Visiting Nurse Plus, Memorial CDC and the Dream Center will serve the low income tenants at Carpenter Court Apartments.
