Northeast Dubois Schools Turn To E-Learning To Avoid Snow Day Makeup Days

Children attending Northeast Dubois Schools were gifted four consecutive snow days recently. At five snow days, the schools are out of pre-planned days off. That means that traditionally, these local children would have to make up the snow days later in the year. And NDS just used their fifth day!

Board Adopted New Measure

The corporation school board just adopted a new measure at the board meeting. In order to avoid forcing children to attend classes later into June, they decided e-learning was the perfect option. So, Northeast Dubois Schools will soon have a new way of handling things. When the weather is too cold or the roads are treacherous, they won’t cancel school. These local kids will just learn from home using their internet connection.

The process is underway and teachers will send home information about how the new procedures work, the Dubois County Herald reported.

Virtual Learning Days

So, on these e-learning days, teachers will upload documents and other information online. The teachers will be available by email if students have questions for the whole school day. Then, the kids will have a few days to complete the snow day work. This will make sure that kids can still do their snow day work even if they don’t have internet access at home or if the power goes out during a blizzard.
