Jasper Municipal Gas Utility: Natural Gas In Jasper, Indiana?

The Jasper Municipal Gas Utility provides gas to the city. It maintains about 100 miles of distribution lines. Supplies are partly provided from a tap on the Texas Eastern Pipeline System. That system is just north of Jasper. Another tap is at the Trans Canada ANR Pipeline System located just west of Schnellville. Anyway, numerous distribution and regulator stations can be found around the city. Together, these help maintain proper pressure through the whole system.

The municipal gas utility was first created in 1954. It started with a mere nine miles of distribution lines. Now, the Jasper Municipal Gas Utility is actually the second largest municipal gas utility in all of Indiana. It’s behind only Indianapolis. Jasper’s gas utility is a member of the Gas Utilities Alliance. The Alliance provides liability insurance to its members, which is helpful for everyone!

If you’re new to town or planning to move to the city, you can observe the meetings of the Jasper Utility Service Board. Their meetings are at 7:00 PM on the third Monday of each month. Just head into the City Hall Council Chambers to participate.
