Fairfield Inn and Suites by General Hotels Corporation of Indianapolis comes to Downtown Jasper by the end of this year. The hotel, part of the River Centre development on the Patoka River, indicates even more growth and opportunity for the city. Featuring 84 rooms, it’s on track for completion. The other parts of the development won’t be done until 2019. At that point, the Jasper Cabinet building becomes apartments and retail space. In all, the entire development means a $30 million investment into our fair city.
If you’re on Third Avenue, you can already see the block structures where the hotel will stand. You might notice the elevator shafts and fire escapes. These block structures also add to the stability of the completed building. Yet, when finished, you won’t be able to actually see those cement structures.
As far as the Jasper Cabinet building goes, the interior demolition in process makes way for eventual retail and restaurant tenants. This brings even more jobs and opportunity to the city. Many tenants are already confirmed.
Plus, you can look forward to 200 additional parking spaces and improvements on the riverbank and the area roads. Oh, also, you may have noticed work on the tracks. The track will require less maintenance and take up less space encased in concrete. The extra space will make room for a new two-lane road (named River Centre Landing) for the development. The work on the tracks should be done next month!
