Evansville’s New Selfie Spot
Evansville folks, you know that alley off Main Street next to Innovation Pointe? Since it’s been used for so many selfies, Abby Elpers, marketing and communications manager with Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, had a dream of turning that alley into a selfie location that was even more unique. When we say she had a dream, we mean, she literally woke up from a dream with the idea!
GAGE President Ellen Horan and the mayor thought it was a great idea. So, she worked with Sarah Schuler, the Evansville Public Art Commission Chairwoman, to get the approvals needed to make her dream a reality/ Artist Michael Smith ended up being chosen as the artist to work on the mural. The mural is a recreation of a vintage “Greetings from Evansville” postcard. The only difference is that new Evansville images were added to the inside of the lettering. The following images are featured:
- Four Freedoms monument
- Bosse Field
- West Side Nut Club Fall Festival
- A tiger from Mesker Park Zoo
- The Old Courthouse
- Fireworks over the Ohio River
- Campus views of UE and USI
- The Children’s Museum of Evansville
- Mickey’s Kingdom
