What Happens To The US-41 Bridges Once The I-69 ORX Is Built?

Will the US-41 bridges remain in service once the Ohio River Crossing (I-69 ORX) connects Evansville and Henderson? That’s a question many are wondering about. It’s an important part of the discussion. Mobility between the two cities is obviously incredibly important, but so is safety and upkeep costs.
Keep in mind, one of the US-41 bridges is over 80 years old. The other is over 50 years old. The cost of maintaining these bridges is incredibly high. Between the two states, in just over a decade, more than $50 million has gone into maintenance costs. In order to maintain both of the existing bridges through 2062, the costs would exceed $240 million.
The DEIS is even considering the possibility of using one of the older bridges as a part of the  Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the area.
Would you like to see one of the bridges stay? Make sure to have your voice heard either way on the project website here.
