German Medieval Village Plans Still Moving Forward
Plans for creating a German medieval village in the northeast corner of Dubois are still moving forward. The hold up is merely the organization’s non profit and tax-exempt status. The paperwork was submitted in February, so now they just wait for federal approval.
Catherine LeBlanc, co-organizer of the Rosenvolk German Medieval Festival, said that several foundations and businesses are ready to help fund the $5 million project as soon as the federal government confirms that tax status.
The village will feature a castle, culinary school and banquet hall. There will even be a meadery! Hopefully, the Rosenvolk Festival will move to the location, organizers say. Meanwhile, the Dubois County Tourism Board is also behind the idea of the permanent German medieval village in the county. The Dubois County Commissioners expressed the desire to talk to neighbors to make sure the public is behind it too.
