Our very own Dubois County Human Society was just awarded $10,000 by the Dubois County Community Foundation. The grant was awarded as part of the Foundation’s 12 Days of Giving event. The public voted on the winners of the awards as part of a granting blitz. The granting blitz kicked off at the beginning of December. A community vote took place on the Foundation’s Facebook page. The public cast over 1,725 votes in total. All together, the Dubois County Humane Society earned 892 votes, according to the Dubois County Free Press.

Andrea Hedinger Gramelspacher, the Dubois County Humane Society President, said that a record-breaking year in animal adoptions increased the veterinary costs this year:

“The Humane Society was able to adopt over 600 animals this year which is a record for our organization and subsequently increased our vet costs. This grant will offset all of our vet care needs which we must raise 100% on a local level.”

The Dubois County Humane Society

The Dubois County Humane Society operates multiple programs to help local animals. This local Humane Society is a no-kill, limited access shelter that is located in Jasper, Indiana. They have a successful Trap-Neuter-Release program. See, this program helps lower the number of feral cats in the county through a proven management strategy. Yes, they offer free T-N-R services for “community cats.” Of course, they do suggest a $30 donation. Still, that’s only if the caregiver can afford the donation. Plus, they offer a food pantry for caregivers who can’t afford to feed the colonies they manage.

All animals adopted from the Dubois County Humane Society receive age-appropriate vaccinations and are spayed or neutered, wormed, micro-chipped, and flea treated. Dogs are all tested for heart-worms and treated if they test positive for heart-worms.

Congratulations to All Grant Winners!

In addition to the $10,000 grant to the Humane Society, 12 other organizations received grants in the 12-day granting blitz. Welsh Realty Corp. congratulates all grant recipients and thanks them for their continued dedication to this community.
