Ductless HVAC systems are incredibly efficient heat pump systems. They actually transfer heat both ways, so they function as both air conditioners in the summer and heaters in the winter. The new ductless systems generally have one outdoor unit that feeds multiple indoor units. Separate living spaces get separate splits. This allows the homeowner to control the temperature of individual rooms. This zone control helps keep costs down.
