Advanced technology has increased homeowners’ options when it comes to durable flooring. We now can choose from stain-resistant carpet, flexible floor tiles and engineered hardwood. Ease of installation of flooring has greatly increased and there’s never been better options in flooring. One of the coolest new technologies is vinyl plank flooring. It’s also sometimes called “luxury vinyl plank,” or LVP. Vinyl plank flooring offers great durability at a reasonable price.
The Many Advantages of Vinyl Plank Flooring
Vinyl plank flooring remarkably has the look and texture of a real hardwood floor. It’s easy to install, absorbs sound, is durable, and is comfortable.
Ease of Installation
Vinyl plank is easy installed on almost any level surface. So, you don’t need any special underlayments. It rests directly on the flooring and doesn’t require many special tools. Usually a utility knife is all that’s needed. This flooring has click together installation as is floating. That means you don’t use glue or nails! It’s probably the easiest flooring for a DIY installation.
Sound Absorption
Hard surfaces usually increase the noise level of a room, because sound bounces off the hard surfaces. Vinyl plank flooring doesn’t just reduce the echo like tile and hardwood can, it also helps actually reduce sound reverberations in rooms. While it’s obviously not going to soften sound as much as carpet would, it’s still much better than other flooring surface materials.
Durability
Hardwood flooring is susceptible to scratching and tile is susceptible to chipping. Carpet wears with use. Vinyl plank flooring is extremely resistant to these things. Durability is one of the favorite advantages of this type of flooring. For greater durability, choose a type of LVP that is waterproof, especially if you’re living with children or pets. Some LVP is water-resistant, and performs as it should, but waterproof LVP will greating increase the lifespan of the flooring. You can use waterproof vinyl even in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms!
Comfort
Vinyl plank flooring offers warmth, because the design of this floor lets the surface remain near room temperature. If you’ve lived with wood or tile, you know that the floor can be significantly colder than the room temperature. Vinyl plank flooring is also said to be easier to walk on from a pressure standpoint in feet, ankles and knees, because they often are constructed with a built-in padded underlayment ready to go, straight out of the box.
Affordability
Vinyl plank flooring is significantly less expensive than hardwood flooring. Some people choose carpet to save money, but high quality vinyl plank flooring is usually about the same cost as carpet. In lesser used areas like closets or offices, you can even get away with lesser quality vinyl plank flooring for under a dollar per square foot. Also, unlike carpet, you can easily install LVP yourself, saving on installation fees. Even if you do choose to get vinyl plank flooring installed, it’s usually cheaper than carpet.
