Have you heard of the Clean Evansville anti-litter campaign? The City of Evansville and Keep Evansville Beautiful and volunteers work together once a month to clean up target areas. The coalition hopes to involve the whole community. It’s a really simple way to encourage community pride. It’s literally hanging out with others, picking up the area. It’s a monthly activity that even kids can do, and meet new people in the process.
They meet on the first Saturday of every month. The mayor joins everyone volunteering at a location that is predetermined. The mayor hands out trash bags and gloves donated by local businesses. The whole thing only lasts two-hours, so it’s not a huge chore. As people work together, the mess is quickly cleaned. It’s a great way to see a visible, immediate impact from volunteering.
