Arts and Culture in Jasper this Summer

There’s always something to do in Jasper, Indiana. Summer is particularly exciting, because the Jasper Arts Commission plans all kinds of events where everyone is welcome.

So what’s on the schedule this summer in Jasper?

The Jasper Chalk Walk: June 6, 2015

The Jasper Chalk Walk Arts Festival is an amazing event that draws residents and guests from all the neighboring towns. It’s an all-day event that starts at 8 a.m. on June 6. The fun goes until 5 p.m., and Jasper’s Main Street comes alive with music, hands-on activities and performances. (In case of rain, the make-up day for the Chalk Walk is June 13.)

The Quick Draw: July 10, 2015

The Quick Draw event, also sponsored by the Jasper Arts Commission, is a fun day at Schaeffer Barn. It’s actually a competition, and participants must create and frame one plein air piece between 4 and 6 p.m. If you’re interested, you can register through the Arts Commission – but know that you’re not allowed to use models or references, and you have to compete from within the boundaries the contest administrators set up for contestants.

Plein Air: July 11, 2015

Join dozens of other artists in a friendly all-day painting competition that starts bright and early. You can get your canvas stamped for competition as early as 6 p.m., paint until 5 and have your work judged between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

Visual Arts Ventures

The Arts Commission is holding Visual Arts Ventures between June 8 and July 17. They’re offering 5 weeks of classes (you don’t have to register for all of them) for kids in kindergarten through 8th grade. The classes are held in different locations, which are listed on the registration form.

Adult classes run from June 13 to July 25, with some being open to middle school-aged kids as well.
