The Energy Investment Tax Credit (ITC) gives homeowners a tax credit that ends up discounting the entire purchase price of a solar array system by 30 percent! Plus, the credit applies to both roof installation and ground installation. Also, you can still claim the credit, even if you finance the solar array rather than paid up front for it!

This huge credit won’t last long though. It’s only been extended through the end of 2019. In 2020, it decreases to 26 percent. In 2021, it will only be a 22 percent credit. After that, the credit will be gone for homeowners, much the way the geothermal tax credit went away.

Solar arrays are said to produce a higher return than the stock market usually does. So, rather than investing your money in someone else’s company, you could invest in your own energy needs. They begin saving money as soon as they are installed.
