Best Flooring Options For A Kitchen
I once purchased subpar flooring for my kitchen. I was young. It was a wood laminate. It said that it was water-resistant. I thought it’d be perfect. Unfortunately, water-resistant is nothing like water-proof. The flooring I purchased would have been better suited for a closet. Not somewhere young children are able to spill upon. Lesson learned. Right now, the non-water-wrecked laminate left over from that kitchen flooring fiasco is now in my closet. The rest had to go into the dumpster. So, what are good options for kitchen flooring? Ideally, the flooring should be easy to clean, and waterproof.
Sheet Vinyl
I know that the term sheet vinyl presents throwbacks from grandma’s yellow and gold kitchen. But there is a myriad of sheet vinyl options that are genuinely waterproof and stain-proof. You can get plain vinyl flooring, checkerboard vinyl flooring, vinyl flooring that has texture and looks like stones or ceramic tile and many more. The sheets come in 12-feet wide rolls. Seams are minimal. A professional installer will connect seams and make the entire floor virtually seamless. Another benefit of sheet vinyl is that it is slightly softer than other options. If you drop a bowl, it might not break. It’s also much cheaper than other option. Even cheaper than the wood laminate I opted for when I was young.
Porcelain Tile
Porcelain tile can last lifetimes when properly maintained and properly installed. The house I live in now was built in the 50s. The bathroom has porcelain tile that is still holding up great. Whoever installed it did a perfect job, because the grout is still looking great. Porcelain tile is probably too much to handle as a novice DIYer, so you might need to hire a professional installer. By the time you purchase all the tools needed for making the tile exact, you probably aren’t saving a bundle by trying to install the porcelain tile in your kitchen yourself.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring
Engineered Hardwood Flooring is not quite waterproof, but it’s absolutely waterproof enough to handle spills in the kitchen. It can be on the costly side. It’s made with resins and adhesives. It looks like hardwood flooring. It’s incredibly durable to busy kitchen traffic. All you need to do to care for it once installed is sweep and mop it. This choice ads value to your home.
Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Luxury Vinyl Flooring comes in fully waterproof options. There are a variety of colors and styles to choose from. It’s a breeze to maintain. It’s incredibly durable and the vinyl planks can mimic the look of natural stone or natural wood.
