Handle Veterinarian Paperwork Before Moving For A Smooth Transition

Handle Veterinarian Paperwork Before Moving For A Smooth Transition

If you are moving to the Dubois County area with a dog or cat, you probably already know how to keep your pet safe during the move. Many people plan for the big move day and have plans made for a safe transition. Perhaps that’s keeping the animal at a Dubois County kennel for safe pet boarding while you’re in and out of the house moving boxes. Perhaps it’s a sleep over at a family member’s house. Yet, many of us forget to get veterinarian issues in order before a move. Our clients who handle all of the veterinarian transfering in advance feel a huge sense of peace of mind. Plus, occasionally, the new territory, yard, sights and sounds can lead to spontaneous injuries or even a dog’s escape.

If you’re relocating to Jasper area, you’ll need a new veterinarian. We suggest you find one in the area before you actually move. That way you will have already chosen a vet that you like should something come up. Your current veterinarian might be able to recommend one of his or her colleagues near Jasper area. We can also give you suggestions. Just ask your agent!

One huge consideration people don’t consider is the microchip. You will want to make sure that during the moving transition period, you have the microchip information updated to include your cell phone, not your landline.

Also, before you move, you should also try to find a back up 24-hour emergency clinic, just in case you need it. This way, you will have the number and address on hand. You won’t be scrambling to find it in the middle of an emergency, should one arise. We even know people who have directions straight to the clinic nearest their home saved right in their phone. Dubois County Animal Hospital offers emergency care, but only for their established clients. So, again, establishing a relationship before your move can be incredibly handy.

Also, make sure you get copies of your pet’s medical records to give to the new vet. Get these records before you actually move. Get a printed copy of the proof of rabies vaccination too, just in case your dog gets scared and bites a stranger. Even animals who have never bitten might end up snapping at a stranger, considering everything is completely different in a new home. Have your proof of rabies readily available. You don’t want it lost in a moving box!.

If your animal gets lost and picked up by an officer in Dubois County, here is a link to the process. Most of the animals end up at the Dubois County Humane Society. Most newcomers are relieved to discover this is a no-kill process, because it’s not uncommon for dogs to escape when they are moved to a new home.
