USS LST 325: 75-Year-Old Warship To Relocate To Downtown Evansville
A large crowd of veterans and supporters crowded into the City Council meeting in support of moving the USS LST 325, a 75-year-old warship, from Marina Pointe to Downtown Evansville. When the decision was approved by an 8-1 council vote, the crowd cheered and smiled. It won’t be a cheap relocation. It’s expected to cost $3.9 million in total between the move and the planning and construction of a new dock and visitors center at Tropicana Riverfront Plaza. Still with other diverse funding, it’s expected to cost the city only $2.7 million.

Currently, the USS LST 325 draws in 10,000 visitors each year. With the move, that number is expected to easily double right away. Its new location would bring more people to the Plaza as well as the LST, they expect. If all goes well, the relocation should be complete by next summer. Construction bids will go out as early as next month.
