Autumn is a gorgeous time of year, full of reds and oranges and golds, terrific scents like apple and pumpkin pie, and the brilliant blue hue of a frosty morning. It is beautiful outside, so why not bring some of that gorgeous fall splendor from nature inside? You don’t need any particular matching color scheme or lots of money to achieve it – a little creativity and some imagination will get you well on your way! First, imagine the things you like best about fall – is it pumpkins? Halloween? Thanksgiving? Think of the scents, sights and sounds that make you enjoy the holiday and take your cue from there. Don’t be afraid to throw some color around- literally! Some brilliant orange throw pillows, a rust colored throw, and a golden yellow table runner will bring Mother Nature’s theme indoors. Bring out some orange or rust colored pillar candles and a few artificial sunflowers in a tall vase on the floor for a statement piece. Straw wreaths with a large orange, rust or gold bow will finish the look when added to your front door!

Make your centerpiece interesting – collect gourds and different colored apples and group them together in a large wooden bowl or basket. You can use pumpkin, squash, crabapples – anything that naturally occurs in the fall! Take the children and go searching for walnuts and acorns to finish the look. You can run brightly lit ribbon around the centerpiece if you desire.

If you’re looking for some storage for the front porch or mudroom, try some wooden apple crates. Many farmer’s markers or supermarkets make give you these for free! You can cut up burlap to run around the crates and create large bows for a rustic look. These can house your fall gardening tools, umbrellas, or backpacks when not in use.
