Three Cheap Stay-cation Ideas
Not everyone can afford a luxury vacation, or any vacation for that matter. Some years are harder than others financially, but we still need time to de-stress, away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Fortunately, not all vacations have to include a plane ticket or an inexpensive beachfront rental. In fact, some don’t require you to leave your hometown at all! If you’re looking for more than just the regular “lay in bed and binge on Netflix” stay-cation (hey, no judgment!) here are a few ideas.
Stay-cation On The Cheap
- Visit local historical places/art museums
- Go camping, even if it’s in a cabin
- Book an overnight stay at your local hotel with a pool and jacuzzi
Sad to say, most of us truly don’t take advantage of what is right in our backyard – namely historical sites, museums, art galleries, etc. It may require a bit of research, but it is fun to step back in time and consider the perils of the Civil War, tour an old plantation home, shop in an Amish market or take a ferry ride. In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives these things are forgotten, but they are a great experience and a cheap get away from daily life.
Even if you aren’t a skilled camper, many local state parks offer cabin rentals for nominal fees, where you are able to go to a shower building, have a bathroom, etc., while still kind of “roughing it.” It gives you some much needed time away from electronics, anyway, and may offer a nice swim in the lake, good hiking trails, and a chance to sit by a campfire and watch the fireflies. What’s not to love?
Even though an overnight stay in a hotel is a little pricier than other suggestions, sometimes it’s what is needed. An opportunity to sleep in, feel no need to cook or clean, binge on your favorite television, and take a dive in the hotel pool can be well worth it! It’s an added bonus if the hotel has a continental breakfast or room service. This idea might cost some money, but not nearly as much as a destination vacation in another town. You’ll still arrive back home with new head space!
