Kitchens Painted In These Shades Of Blue Typically Sell Faster

Colors to paint kitchen to sell home.

It’s common knowledge that a fresh coat of paint can help sell a house. Yet, Zillow analyzed more than 32,000 listing photos. The verdict? It’s not just a new coat of paint that makes a difference. The color you choose in each particular room matters. Sellers should strongly consider the color of paint. Buyers prefer different colors in different rooms too. Zillow determined that shades of blue work best in kitchens. Meanwhile, shades of yellow resulted in lower final sales on average.

What Shades Of Blue Work Best In Kitchens?

If you want to appeal to buyers, paint your kitchen blue. Not just any blue though. Paint your kitchen light blue to soft gray-blue. Homes with kitchens painted with light blue to soft gray-blue paint sold for $1,809 more on average.

“Color can be a powerful tool for attracting buyers to a home, especially in listing photos and videos,” Svenja Gudell, Zillow‘s chief economist, said, according to Business Insider. “Painting walls in fresh, natural-looking colors, particularly in shades of blue and pale gray, not only make a home feel larger, but also are neutral enough to help future buyers envision themselves living in the space. Incorporating light blue in kitchens and bathrooms may pay off especially well as the color complements white countertops and cabinets, a growing trend in both rooms.”

Avoid Yellows For A Better Chance

Meanwhile, yellows don’t work so well for kitchens, the report indicated. Homes with kitchens painted straw yellow to marigold sold for an average of $820 less. So, while some buyers might appreciate a kitchen with a lovely warm butter hue, odds are in your favor if you avoid yellow walls in your kitchen all together.
