This week is Indiana’s birthday week! Tuesday, Hoosiers celebrated their 202nd Statehood Day. 202 years ago, on Dec. 11, 1816, Indiana joined the union. We were the 19th state.
Keeping with tradition, hundreds of fourth-graders from Indiana and state leaders gathered to celebrate under a huge Indiana flag in the Statehouse’s south atrium. The group sang “Happy Birthday” to the state!
Here were some highlights from Indiana’s birthday party this year:
- Kids were able to check out exhibits and learn more about the state government.
- A student from Van Rensselaer Intermediate School won the Statehood Day essay contest.
- The Plainfield High School choir sang “Back Home Again in Indiana.”
