Huntingburg’s New Railroad Overpass Opens This Week

The new railroad overpass in Huntingburg opens this this week! The project of the Indiana Department of Transportation first announced the railroad overpass in 2013. The City of Huntingburg and Dubois County both contributed $1 million each in order to fulfill the 20 percent match requirement for the project’s funding.

Last week at a special council meeting, the new overpass was approved as a city street. They opted to go with the name suggested by the Mayor’s Youth Council. Progress Parkway rises over the railroad tracks before curving northeast to intersect with Chestnut Street and then feeds into 14th Street. Chestnut Street traffic will experience a two-way stop at the intersection soon.

Heritage Trail now also uses the overpass to allow for a safer way for residents on the north side of Huntingburg to connect with Niehaus Park and Fourth Street.

The dedication ceremony for the overpass will be presented by INDOT on November 14 at 10 a.m..
