How To Register To Vote In Indiana

Indiana allows voters to register to vote online, in person, or by mail. Online registration is extremely simple. To register to vote in Indiana online, go to the Indiana Online Voter Registration web page. You’ll need to verify your voter eligibility, so have your Indiana driver’s license or state identification card number ready to go.

Voter Registration Deadlines

To vote in Indiana, register at least 29 days before the upcoming election! The deadline for the November election this year is October 9, 2018. So, be sure to register before that deadline! Mail-in voter registration applications have to be postmarked on or before October 9, 2018. Online voter registration applications have to be submitted before 11:59 p.m. October 9, 2018. Absentee-by-mail applications have to be received before 11:59 p.m. October 9, 2018.

Indiana Primary Election

Indiana has an essentially open primary system. So, any registered voter can cast a ballot in the Republican or Democratic primary, regardless of their party affiliation. The deadline to register to vote to participate in the primary has passed already. If you’re registered to vote and intend to, mark your calendar. This year, the primary election is scheduled for May 8, 2018.

Who Can Register To Vote In Indiana?

You can register to vote in Indiana if all of the following are true:

You’re a U.S. citizen.
You’re a resident of Indiana.
You will be 18-years-old or older on the date of the election.
You’ve lived in the precinct for at least 30 days before the election date.
You’re not incarcerated over a felony conviction.
