What is the Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets Event?

If you’re new to Ferdinand or planning on relocating to Ferdinand, Indiana, you won’t want to miss the annual Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets. This was voted one of the American Bus Association’s Top 100 Events in North America. This event generally brings in about 10,000 people to the city, and it’s fabulous for local businesses. The markets are a throwback to 14th-century Germany and the event was created in order to bring in tourism to the area during the fall.

What You’ll See at Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets

You will find ornately decorated booths featuring Christmas ornamental items, antiques, regional food, live entertainment and more. In all, this years’ Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets are located at eight different sites:

You can pick up historic handmade treasures and antiques at some of the over 200 booths, check out the Marionette Theater, or sample local wines. Some locals enjoy going to Mass, complete with German hymns. There is usually a wonderful children’s choir and other live performances.

There is something for everyone at the annual Christkindlmarkt Heritage Markets in Ferdinand. It’s just one of the unique local treasures in this beautiful area.
