When you are buying a home, it can be tempting to waive your right to a home inspection to make your offer stand out. But should you?

Should You Waive a Home Inspection?

Generally, even if you believe it will make your offer stand out, you shouldn’t wave a home inspection. That’s because an inspector can uncover potential issues that could really affect your enjoyment of the home – and cost you thousands of dollars to repair.

A home inspection is your one chance to find out about all the issues a home might have. If you skip it, you won’t find out until after you’ve made your purchase. At that point, all the costs fall on you. You’ve lost your negotiation leverage and you can’t typically go back to the original seller to get them to pitch in.
