Three Ways To Make Your House Gallery Photos Pop

We all know that in real estate, photos are everything! No matter how great the location or how good the price, most potential home buyers will not ever make an appointment to see a home that is advertised without photos -or worse – with bad photos. While it’s definitely in your best interest to work with a real estate agent and let the agent take the photos, some of you are bounded and determined to do it on your own. That’s okay as long are photos are very high quality and really capture the scope and good qualities about your house. More is always better – people want to see many photos of every room in your home, including the landscape, garage, deck, and any outdoor amenities (such as in-ground pools, wooden gazebos, ponds, gardens). As you can see, this is time consuming and is not easy.

  •  Make sure everything is spotless and clean
  •  Photograph in natural sunlight, or at least adequate lighting
  •  Capture photos from the best vantage points of the room

Naturally, you’ll want your house to be very clean and tidy before you take any photos. We’ve all seen pictures of houses that show tons of clutter, dishes all over the counter, dirty clothes on the floor, even unmade beds. While it’s true the buyer should be focusing on the actual home characteristics, it’s nearly impossible to overlook all that mess to see the good – even If the house is spectacular. The potential buyer may even worry that if you’re been a less than stellar housekeeper, did you bother to keep up with repair and maintenance of the home? It won’t seem likely, so the potential buyer is bound to move on.

A close second photo failure is photos that look dark, dreary, or are difficult to see. Buyers like to see a lot of natural light – it’s cheerful and makes your home more inviting. Make sure your curtains and blinds are open and that your windows are recently washed, If you have a room with no window, or few windows, bring in extra lighting (A table lamp or floor lamp strategically placed somewhere). Anything to keep the room from looking dreary and grainy is your goal.

The view from which you take your photos is extremely important. Buyers like to see rooms and the entire home from different angles, but make sure you capture the highlights – such as a photo that showcases a beautiful French door that’s open and leading from the kitchen to dining room, etc. Some people have found it helpful to get some height when they are taking pictures – stand on a sturdy step stool in the corner of the room while you take the photo. It will make your room look better and more of the room will be able to be seen in the photo.
