Five Easy Ideas For DIY Halloween Costumes

Five Easy Ideas For DIY Halloween Costumes

Halloween can be so much fun, but purchasing a costume can be terribly expensive! Thankfully, whether child or adult, you don’t have to – all you need to do is hit up the local thrift shop and perhaps raid the cheap cosmetics section. These are costumes that are work, school, anywhere-friendly and won’t destroy your pocketbook! You can decide how far to take them, but we are sure these are not your everyday costumes and will not cost a lot of time or money.

Five Easy Ideas For DIY Halloween Costumes

  •  Jackie Kennedy Onassis
  •  Lucille Ball
  •  A Deer
  •  Mary Poppins
  •  A Cowboy

Who didn’t love the look of our stylish Jackie O with her matching heels and skirt suits? Go grab a 1960s set from your local thrift store, pin your hair to chin length, and get big, glamourous dark sunglasses with round frames. Make sure you are absolutely tasteful – pearls as your accessories, please, and your skirt should be knee-length. If you carry a clutch purse, it should match your shoes.

Lucille Ball was another stunning beauty that also kept the country smiling – grab any 1950s dress from a thrift shop (it’s a plus if it has a collar!) and put your hair in pin curls. Finish your look with some bright red lipstick that extends just a bit further than your lips – not clownish, but the red lips should be a focal point of your costume!

If you have a headband, brown felt paper, khakis and a brown shirt – you’re well on your way to being the season’s most coveted animal – a deer! Cut out leaf shaped felt pieces for ears and glue them on the headband (or you could be extra adventuresome and make antlers!) and make sure everything you wear from head to toe is brown. Whether you want a red nose or a black nose Is up to you – feel free to be extra festive and dress like Rudolph!

If you have a black skirt, a white shirt, and a black umbrella, you can be Mary Poppins! Black tights and a black bowler hat complete the look, along with a red bow-tie. If your hair is long, wear it in a bun. Be careful about opening your umbrella indoors – some folks say it is bad luck!

A Cowboy/Cowgirl is another easy thing to be – you may have all the necessary components already! A flannel shirt, some well worn jeans, cowboy boots, a big belt buckle and cowboy hat will have you in style in no time.
