How To Clean a Grill In 5 Easy Steps
It’s summertime, and chances are you’re grilling out a bunch! Grilled food is easy, delicious, and we associate it with warm evenings and good times with family and friends. Chances are, however, you’re not cleaning your grill as thoroughly or as often as you should. This is not usually a huge health issue because of the very high temperatures that food is cooked at when grilled, which kills bacteria, but smoke from blackened burned leftover bits and grit from old food can distort that look and taste of a freshly grilled meal. It’s actually easy to clean a grill.
How To Clean a Grill In 5 Easy Steps
- Disconnect the gas line
- Remove the grates and clean with a wire brush
- Remove the barrier that shields the grates from the burners
- Scrub the Inside Surfaces of the grill
- Heat the grill for at least ten minutes before grilling.
If it’s a gas grill, be sure to safely disconnect the gas line. Fill a bucket with warm soapy water. You may wish to wear kitchen gloves to prevent your nails from becoming blackened.
Remove the grates and you can soak them in the bucket, and then scrub clean with a wire brush. Rinse them off with clean water and lay flat to dry.
Remove the barrier between the grates and burners, and then unclog any areas of ash using a wire brush, then set the burners back in place. Wash the flame shields in warm soapy water.
By this point, you may need to change out the dirty water for fresh soapy water. Use the wire brush to scrub the inner surfaces of the grill. Rinse them and dry with a clean cloth.
Reconnect the gas line and heat the grill for ten minutes before using the grill to dissipate any water/soap residue.
