8 Ways to Use Baking Soda for Personal Care

Photo of Baking soda in a bowl with text 8 Ways to Use Baking Soda for Personal CareBaking soda is one of the most versatile products that you can find. In fact, it’s so useful for so many things that it’s a downright shame that most people only use it for baking or to keep their refrigerators odor-free. In fact, you can use baking soda in a number of different ways for personal care. You may even stop purchasing some of your more expensive personal care products in favor of simply using baking soda! The following are eight ways that you can use baking soda for personal care:

Mouthwash

Dump a single teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water. Then just use it the same way you would typically use mouthwash – take a mouthful, swish it around and spit it out. Baking soda does an excellent job of not just covering up bad mouth odors, but neutralizing them completely.

Toothpaste

There’s no need to purchase that expensive fluoride filled toothpaste. Simply combine a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide with baking soda in order to create a toothpaste-like paste. The baking soda will both help to clean your teeth as well as kill any foul odors in your mouth.

Exfoliate

Make a solution consisting of one part water and three parts baking soda. Take this solution to rub it onto your skin. The rough texture of the baking soda will help to loosen up dirt and grim on your skin.

Deodorant

Considering the fact that baking soda does such a tremendous job killing odors, whether you use it as mouthwash or you keep it in your refrigerator, why not dab a little bit underneath your arms instead of using store-bought deodorant? It works just as well, and you won’t have to worry about the aluminum content that is alarmingly found in a lot of mass produced deodorants.

Irritated skin soother

Have any insect bites or generally itchy spots on your skin? Baking soda will go a long way in easing your itch. Just rub a tiny bit of baking soda onto the affected area right after you’ve taken a shower or a bath.

Hand soap

Combine baking soda with some warm water and gently scrub your hands with it. The baking soda will help to scrub away all dirt while also neutralizing any odors. Not only will this baking soda solution help clean your hands thoroughly; it will make them feel softer as well.

Hair cleaner

Okay, so maybe baking soda isn’t an exact replacement for shampoo. However, by combining just a little bit of baking soda with the shampoo you normally use, you’ll guarantee a clean wash. The baking soda will help to remove any left over residue left in your hair by any styling products that you may have used.

Foot soaker

Had a rough day at work? Fill a small bin up with warm water and throw in a couple of tablespoons of baking soda. Soak your feet in the water and scrub them gently to help soothe any aches and pains caused by being on your feet all day.

These are just eight of the ways that you can be using baking soda for personal care. Not only is baking soda a perfect alternative to many of the store-bought personal care products, it’s often superior as well!
