6 Tips to Help De-Stress your Life During Covid-19 (Coronavirus)
Summer breaks, vacations, visitors, and life changes can all throw off your routine–and that can be a bad thing for your health and well-being. Throw Covid-19 (Coronavirus) into the mix and everything in your life may feel like its been upended. You might skip exercise, eat the wrong foods or at odd hours, sleep less, and neglect essential duties. Fortunately, you don’t have to suffer during this troubling pandemic. These six tips will help you maintain structure and provide some stress relief despite this tough time. Not only will your mind and body benefit; you’ll be more productive, confident, and in charge of your day.
1. Create a Plan for Tomorrow
Don’t have a plan for tomorrow? Make one. Just because your routine is off doesn’t mean you can’t put together a schedule of activity for the next day. It’ll give you a sense of direction, and you’ll have a more restful night knowing what the morning has in store. Even better, you’ll make tomorrow more efficient.
2. Set the Alarm
Sticking to a regular sleep schedule helps keep the body’s internal clock consistent, promotes better slumber, and improves energy and focus. If possible, wake up and go to bed at your regular time during interruptions in routine. Even if you have a late night, set the alarm and get up at the usual hour.
3. Maintain Regular Meal Times
Eating at the same time every day, even on the atypical days, is good for your heart, digestion, and metabolism, plus it’s a habit that encourages structure. Schedule breakfast, lunch, and dinner as you would on a typical day and avoid skipping meals. Make an effort to follow a nutritious diet, too; your body will thank you.
4. Make Downtime a Duty
Downtime is your time–and an essential part of every day. Your regular schedule should include “you” time and so should the days when you’re off schedule. Setting aside downtime will help you maintain a rhythm to the day as you anticipate that particular time to yourself to take a walk, visit with a friend, or relax at home.
5. Get Everyone On Board
Your schedule–and whether you stick to it–can depend on other people and their behavior. If you want to retain structure until the Covid-19 pandemic is over, make sure everyone around you knows the plan. With all parties aware of expectations, you’re more likely to keep a schedule and have a successful, productive day.
6. Pay Attention to the Clock
During breaks in routine, people often ignore the time. But doing so can throw both your body and your entire day out of whack. You don’t need to obsess about watching the clock but try to check on the time periodically so you can keep a steady pace throughout the day, stay organized, and be in control of when you do things.
Daily structure helps keep you healthy, organized, and in charge. Make it a constant, even during Covid-19 disruptions, and experience for yourself the power–and rewards–of routine.
