5 Things To Do On A Rainy Day

It is a bummer to realize your only day off is pouring the rain, but you can actually turn it into something that is an advantage for you. During workdays, we are so busy with work, and on days off, we usually have a hard time justifying staying in and not going out in the sunshine. But if there’s no sunshine, you have no choice but to stay inside. Of course you can do the usual such as get your laundry caught up or make a killer pot of chili, but you can also do some things for you that you don’t normally indulge in.

5 Things To Do On A Rainy Day

  • Deep Condition Your Hair
  • Plan Your Next Vacation
  • Give Yourself a Manicure/Pedicure
  • Get caught up on your favorite Netflix series
  • Email, Write Or Call Far-Away Friends of Relatives

You’ve been meaning to deep-condition your hair for a while, but you never made it to the drugstore, and now it’s raining so hard you can’t even see your vehicle sitting in your driveway. All is not lost – Simply wet your hair, and apply 1/2 cup real mayonnaise from roots to tips, leaving it on for about half an hour. You may smell like potato salad, but your hair will be seriously shiny after you rinse. Be honest – would you have taken the time to do this on an 80 degree sunny day?

We all like to talk about where we are going next summer (or for Thanksgiving, or whatever your family tradition is) but few people actually do it in time and are actually scrambling at the last minute. Why? Because we’re busy with work and weekend activities. A rainy day is a perfect day to actually sit down at the computer and plan out your vacation – book your flights (the earlier the better), your Air BnB, the attractions you wish to see. It needs to be done, so may as well do it now (plus, it’s fun!)

Grab an emery board, some moisturizer and some nail polish and get to work on those nails you’ve been neglecting. Whether short or long, everyone’s cuticles could use some care and nails could use a good cleaning. If you don’t like color, a nice clear polish is the way to go. Make sure you have lots of things to watch afterward while you lay still and let your toes and hands dry thoroughly.

Whether it’s Hulu or Netflix, we are willing to bet you’re not caught up on some show you love. Rather than miss a few hours of shut-eye this week, pop some popcorn, curl up with a cup of hot tea and your favorite blanket, and watch those shows now – zero guilt involved. The rain is raging – there’s nothing else to do!

You know how you think about Aunt Ellen out in Ohio and get a twinge of guilt because you haven’t talked to her in a year? You want to call, but the phone call is guaranteed to take an hour, so you keep putting it off for a day that you have time. Well, today is the day! You can also email and text a lot of friends you haven’t seen or talked to in a long time. The exchange doesn’t need to carry on forever, but it’s extremely nice to know that you’ve made an effort to catch up with people you love and haven’t seen in a while. Life is precious, and sometimes it is Mother Nature that lets us know that. A simple “Hey, I’ve been thinking about you, and wanted you to know!” can mean the world to an elderly relative or old college friend.
