Three Rewarding Fall Home Improvement Projects
Whether you are looking to sell your home to just fix it up for your pleasure, autumn is a great time to get some of these jobs accomplished. In fall, it’s neither too hot or too cold and humidity is lower, meaning the work itself will be easier for you (or the company you hire to do it) and that the chances of the update/repair being successful and not hindered by crazy temperatures or severe weather are low. It’s also great for your mental health to be out and about in the fall – so make it a priority to get outside and show some love to your house. The opportunities for updates/projects are endless, but here are three that any novice can do rather easily.
Three Rewarding Fall Home Improvement Projects
- Paint your front door
- Repair your deck
- Power-wash your vinyl siding/sidewalks
There are few things that are as easy of a face lift as painting your front door. No matter if your door is metal or wood, you should be able to paint it (just be sure to research how to appropriately paint each type of door!) make sure it is clean and dry first, then don’t be afraid to add some dazzling colorings. Red and Harvest yellow are popular right now and perfect for the season. Remember, if you don’t like it after giving it a few days to grow on you – it’s a very easy thing to remedy! Ask your home improvement center about colors and finishes that may work with the exterior colors of your home and shutters. Don’t be afraid to be a little daring! Most people are glad they were.
If your deck needs some boards replaced or needs re-stained, fall is an optimal time to get it done. Replace any warped or rotten boards and then power-wash your deck before either painting or staining it. After allowing that to dry, you can also add a sealant. Don’t forget to put any lingering summer items away – chaise lounges, picnic tables etc. The winter will be hard on them, so get them in a garage or shed. Have your deck ready-to-go for springtime next year!
It sometimes goes unnoticed, but vinyl siding and walkways both can get very grimy after a year of weather and seasonal turns, pollen, soot, dirt from the roadway, etc. If your vinyl is light colored, this is especially true. You may even notice greenish moldy deposits on your siding and/or walk way. Fortunately, it’s nothing a power-washer can’t handle, which you can purchase at a home improvement store, or rent one for the day as well. If it’s something you’ll be using frequently, it may be worth the investment. You will be amazed at how clean and new your exterior looks when you are finished.
