The Midstate Corridor is the proposed highway-grade connection to run from Interstate 64 to Interstate 69 through Dubois County. Last year, Indiana lawmakers passed a bill letting municipalities participate in a regional development authority to create a fund that would go to support regional infrastructure projects like the Midstate Corridor. So, after that, the Midstate Corridor Regional Development Authority was formed.
A study of our region will cost around $7 million and take three years. The state’s RDA already has $3.8 million in commitments for the study from the business and private sector. Meanwhile, the City of Jasper, the City of Huntingburg and Dubois County were asked to contribute $3.5 million collectively, with Dubois County contributing half of that.
The project is expected to end up on INDOT’s next funding cycle. The current five-year funding cycle began this year, so the Midstate Corridor is still a ways off. In the meantime, the state is tasked with maintaining and repairing the current rinfrastructure.
