Invasive Species Awareness Coalition of Dubois County Provides Excellent Opportunities To Homeowners

The Invasive Species Awareness Coalition of Dubois County (ISAC) helps remove invasive plants from the community ecosystem. They’ve removed invasive plants from Dubois County Park. ISAC also works to inform residents of invasive plants available for sale right in Indiana. Plus, they even offer workshops for residents.

In the past, they’ve targeted invasive plants like autumn olive, Japanese honeysuckle and multiflora rose. In their place, they’ve planted pecan tree seedlings. When they plan events, volunteers are always welcome. Jasper area residents don’t even need to know how to identify an invasive species. Newcomers are paired with experienced identifiers. It’s a great way to get out and meet people and learn about invasive species in our area.

Invasive species are non-native plants that tend to invade areas where native plants live. They inhibit the growth of our native species and harm the balance of the ecosystem. ISAC Dubois County was formed in 2015 to raise public awareness and map and eradicate invasive species in Dubois County.
