Huntingburg Plans Study To Help Determine New Comprehensive Plan

2019 will bring an evaluation and study for Huntingburg’s new comprehensive plan. Huntingburg has made significant progress and finished some important city projects last year. The city completely the important railroad overpass project that keeps traffic flowing when a train comes through town, but safety was the biggest purpose. This way emergency vehicles won’t be stopped by a train. The city also saw the completion of Market Street Park offers a beautiful community social space. It ended up being a challenging project because of soft soil, but it did come together and is a great asset. Last year, Huntingburg residents got access to a fiber network through Perry-Spencer Communication’s completion of High Speed Huntingburg. Plus, the police force was expanded with the addition of a school resource officer and a drug investigator.

In 2019, the study should reveal areas of focus now that these projects are complete. One goal is a private investment behavioral facility in the former St. Joseph’s Hospital. That will benefit the entire region. Plus, downtown Fourth Street remodeling will start next month. The work on the workforce housing at the former Wagon Works site on Washington Street is planned for this year. Additionally, a smart network metering system upgrades is planned. 2019 will also begin the expansion of the water treatment plan, and stormwater issues will be tackled. This year, the comprehensive plan will be completely updated after the results of the study come in. So, needless to say, there are many important upgrades coming to Huntingburg this year, making it an even better place to live!
