Huntingburg Old Town Hall: Huntington Treasure Listed On The National Register of Historic Places

The Huntingburg Old Town Hall is an 1887 Italianate structure listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A long time ago, this gorgeously restored building once severed as a fire station and jail. After that it served as a focal point for Huntingburg’s social and political events. It remained in use through the 1930s. Eventually the Huntingburg Old Town Hall was restored. With the support of a the Huntingburg Old Town Endowment, it is open for everyone to see. It’s become a source of community pride.

The Huntingburg Old Town Hall has authentic Victorian lighting and elongated windows. The walls are made of thick 14-inch brick. If you look up, you can see the gorgeous original tin ceiling. The building stands preserved and open at 309 North Geiger Street in Huntingburg. Thanks to the endowment, the HUntingburg Old Town Hall will be able to remain a landmark for Huntingburg residents indefinitely. The Huntingburg Old Town Endowment was established by Phyllis Menke and her mother Marian McMurtrie back in 1992. The building was restored in part using the building materials from the Old Huntingburg High School!
