How To Clean Your House In One Hour
We’ve been there – surprise company is coming, and you have one hour to get your house in order. Now, we aren’t in the miracle-working business – if your home could be featured on an episode of hoarders, this won’t work, but if you are like many of us, who have stacks of mail laying around, dust on some surfaces, a dirty bathtub, and a sticky kitchen floor – we have a plan for you.
How To Clean Your House In One Hour
- Get a Trash bag and throw all trash and junk mail away
- Strip beds and make beds
- Deal With Dust
- Vacuum/Mop
- Bathrooms
- Clean the mirrors
- Make sure kitchen sink/counters are gleaming
The biggest step is to tackle the trash and mail that accumulates, especially if you live with someone who loves to keep all packaging, mail, etc. The truth is, in this electronic age, there’s very little mail you need to keep. Throw it away. Go room to room, dump wastebaskets, empty soda cans, empty shampoo bottles, mail, old magazines, etc.
Strip the beds of their current linen and throw it in the washer and put new sheets on the bed. Make the bed nicely.
Dust room to room, starting at the top (Don’t skip ceiling fans!) Dust tends to accumulate top to bottom, so be ready to tackle corners of the house. Most dust can be handled with dry dusters, and that is easier, but dust that is smudged (like on coffee tables) may require a dust spray. Use that after you dry dust.
Sweep floors and then vacuum or mop. Make sure you do this AFTER you dust, or you’ll need to do it again.
Spray cleanser in the toilets and bathtub and let them do their job for a few minutes before you begin to scrub. While you’re waiting, clean the mirrors. You can do this with white vinegar and a dry cloth for a streak-free finish.
Scrub the kitchen sink and counters with a special cleanser formulated for the sink. You may want to put a lemon through the garbage disposal for a pleasant scent.
Head back to the bathroom to finish cleaning the bathtub and toilet.
Your home is now guest-ready!
