A Main Street America survey of nearly 250 people has been completed pertaining to the city’s downtown. Last week, Jasper residents and community members met with representatives from the National Main Street Center and Indiana Main Street Center. They participated in two days of workshops focusing on downtown planning. Jasper was actually selected to be part of these economic development strategy workshops.
The goal of the workshops was to identify Downtown Jasper’s major market opportunities. The survey results were combined with market data. The plan was to use this info to strengthen the downtown economy. Most agreed that focusing on establishments offering food, entertainment and arts could be a good primary strategy. There aren’t many vacancies now, but the idea is to have a plan in advance for whenever a vacancy does arrive.
Existing strengths that could become even more prominent include the home furnishings sector and the health and fitness sector.
