Don’t Skip the Carpet Padding When Re-Carpeting to Sell

If you are going to re-carpet your home to help it sell faster, that’s awesome! It really does help sell a house, even if the new buyers are just going to choose a new carpet a year down the road. When people see new carpet, everything feels cleaner. As realtors, we point out new carpet to potential buyers. They do feel good about it. One thing we’ve noticed though is that people also really love a quality carpet padding. It’s true. The feeling of nice carpet padding goes further than the same cost investment on a fancier carpet would. Carpet absorbs impact from below. It helps the carpet last longer, but it also provides a great deal more comfort.

Residential carpet should have a minimum six-pound density rating. Pattern and loop carpets do very well with 8-pound padding. Residential cut pile carpet padding can be as thick as 1/2 inch! Don’t exceed 3/8 inches for padding beneath low-pile carpet like berber.

Green-minded carpet buyers might like to know that Nike Grind carpet is made from unused shoe scraps. Instead of tossing the material, Nike sends their scraps to Future Foam. Then, they are made into carpet padding!

Polyurethane carpet padding in 1/2 inch densified prime foam offers high sound ratings and works perfect for a media room. Frothed foam works awesome for hallways and high-traffic rooms.
