DIY Hedging Requires Proper Tools

If you want a nice hedge row, but you want to do it yourself, you will to get the proper tools. If you don’t have the proper tools, leave the hedge trimming to the pros. In order to trim a hedge you will minimally need the following tools:

electric sheers
pruners
loppers.

Electric Shears

Electric shears are super easy to use. All you have to remember is to shape the hedges so that they are wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. Start at the bottom. Then work your way up. You have to make sure that sunlights gets into the bottom leaves, or the bottom of your hedgerow will thin out.

Pruners

In order to cut the holes of a hedgerow, use pruners. Cut holes like that every two feet. When you put holes in it like that, the bottom of your hedgerow will get ample sun. When you use pruners, don’t forget to cut these holes at a 45 degree angle

Loppers

To cut branches that are larger than three-quarters of an inch in diameter, use loppers. But if your job is really big, be sure to remember to never cut more than one-third of the shrub’s branches. If you cut too much while hedging, you could kill the plant.
