Clean Your Vinyl Siding To Enhance Your Home’s Appearance
Are you thinking of making your Jasper home for sale? Considering putting your house in Jasper on the market? Well, since spring is almost here, we have a great job that you can do in advance, before listing your Jasper home for sale with us.
Vinyl siding has soared in popularity because its cheaper than brick or stone and can withstand many types of weather. However, vinyl needs care to always look it best. It can become discolored from grass, tree sap, pollen, and even mold. You’ll need a soft cloth and a long handled soft-bristle brush.
Always start at the bottom and work your way up, as this prevents streaking. You’ll need to spray away any residue as you go. You don’t even need fancy cleaning solutions – 30% white vinegar and 70% water can make a cleaning solution that is safe and can even take care of types of mold. If you need something stronger, you can mix a third of a cup of laundry detergent, two thirds cup of baking soda, and one quart of liquid laundry bleach. However, always be aware that bleach run-off can harm animals and landscaping plants. If you’re concerned about that, use on gallon of water and only one cup of bleach combined. This will be strong enough to clean most stains but is not likely to harm any vegetation near your home.
Commercially prepared products are available as well, specifically formulated for cleaning vinyl siding. These can be used manually or with pressure washers and can also be used on terra cotta, stucco and aluminum, as well as painted wood. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions, as a pressure washing that is too high in velocity may also remove paint. You can also use general household cleaners, Murphy’s Oil Soap, rust removers – most things are safe to use on vinyl. You may need to experiment to see what’s best for you.You can buy or rent a high-powered washer to help blast dirt and other stains away.
Again, start at the bottom to avoid streaking. If you plan on living in a vinyl house for a long period, investing in a high powered washer may make more financial sense that renting one. Always be careful around windows and doors so that you don’t get water inside your home. Never use undiluted bleach, acetone, or steel wool to remove stains. These can destroy your vinyl siding.
It’s best to clean your vinyl on a mild day in spring when there is little wind and no chance of the water freezing. Always use common sense, follow safety instructions, and wear protective eyewear when using a pressure washer, no matter what other cleaners you are using.
