How To Pressure-Wash Your House And Deck

How To Pressure-Wash Your House And Deck

Few things can freshen a home and make it look new like pressure-washing can! Fortunately, pressure-washers are inexpensive to rent and may be worthwhile to buy if you have a good deal of mud, pollen, or mold that seems to accumulate on brick, wood, or siding. Pressure-washing painted wood or other painted surfaces isn’t advised unless you wish to use it to assist in removing loose paint chips and debris before repainting. Otherwise, it may take paint off.

How To Pressure-Wash Your House And Deck

  • Safety First
  • Have a Long Enough Hose Supply
  • Remove Heavy Debris First
  • Work Top To Bottom
  • Move Side To Side

It’s best to wear goggles or other eye protection when pressure washing your house because you never know when a piece of splintered wood may dislodge and hit you in the face. Remember that the pressure from the washer is very high, so it should never be aimed at anyone. Be careful when using ladders to reach tall surfaces and remember that areas that are wet, particularly areas that have been moldy, can be very slick. Wear non-slid shoes – and definitely not flip flops!

You’ll need a good bit of hose to work around your entire house, depending on the circumference of the area you are washing. Don’t pull on hose – this can prevent a dangerous situation. It’s better to have too much hose than too little.

If you’re going to power wash your deck and you have corners where large amounts of decaying leaves have accumulated, it’s better to sweep or shovel those away first. It makes things easier and keeps less debris from flying around once you begin to pressure wash.

Pressure wash from top to bottom, so that dirty water drips downward and can be washed away as you work. Anything else will result in splash marks and an uneven appearance.

Move the pressure washer from side to side with steady pressure if you’re on a flat surface like a porch or deck. This moves dirty water to the side and results in even cleaning.

Many people report a therapeutic effect from pressure-washing and seeing such immediate impressive results. It cant certainly lift your spirits to see your home looking spectacular!
