6 Energy-Boosting Tips for That Mid-Afternoon Slump
In this day and age, it is easy for life to overwhelm, leaving you feeling drained and exhausted. If you find it difficult to pick yourself back up when this happens, here are a few energy-boosting tips that you can try.
Actively Listen to Music
Music is wonderfully restorative, but, rather than leaving your favorite playlist playing in the background, spend some time actively listening to a piece of music instead. Research has shown that this can really affect just about every part of your wellbeing, including physical, mental, neurological, spiritual and chemical wellbeing, making it well worth trying.
Guilt-Free “Me Time”
Having some me-time really does bring with it many energy-boosting benefits, but people tend to feel guilty when they are simply lounging about not being productive. However, it is important that you schedule in some time for yourself on a regular basis, so, whether this may be 15 minutes a day or a weekend every month, give yourself this indulgent time to look forward to.
Short, Intense Exercise Sessions
Exercising when you are already exhausted may be the last thing that you want to do, but it is also one of the methods that will help the most. There is so much research out there that points to the way in which exercise can increase energy levels and boost the body, and just a brisk walk around the block will show you the truth to this.
Avoid Caffeine
While caffeine may be a great way to perk yourself up in the short term, this will only leave you feeling even more drained in the long run, and if you end up overloading on caffeine, you will also experience everything from headaches and irritability to dehydration, none of which will help you to feel better. Rather than turning to coffee, try energy-boosting foods instead, such as almonds, oranges, blueberries and spinach.
15 Minutes of Sunlight
After spending just 15 minutes in the sun, your body’s vitamin D levels will be replenished. Vitamin D, along with the B vitamins, are responsible for battling fatigue, making this a great way to naturally perk yourself up in the afternoon.
Take a Power Nap
Many people feel that power naps only leave them more sluggish when they wake up, but, if this is the case for you, it is likely because your naps are between 30 and 60 minutes long, meaning that you wake up when your body is in the deepest stage of the sleep cycle. Instead, try to keep your naps between 20 to 30 minutes for a quick recharge, or around 90 minutes if you are looking for even more restoration.
When it comes to boosting energy during the day, it is important that you look to methods that will be healthy in the long run. From energy-boosting foods to regular physical activity, these tips will help you to really raise your energy levels and combat mid-day fatigue once and for all.
