5 Home Staging Secrets Every Seller Needs to Know

If you’re selling a home in Jasper or one of the surrounding communities, your real estate agent will most likely talk to you about home staging. Home staging is the art of making your home as appealing as possible to a wide range of buyers, and you can pull it off by using these five home staging secrets:

  1. Clean everything (and we mean everything!)
  2. Declutter ruthlessly
  3. Rearrange your furniture
  4. Empty your closets
  5. Bring in plants

Scroll down for a closer look at each.

Home Staging Secret #1: Clean Everything

Although prospective buyers won’t notice every little thing you clean, they’ll almost certainly notice the things you don’t clean. If it’s in the budget, consider hiring a professional cleaning team to do a thorough job in your home. That way, you only need to maintain what they’ve already done while your house is on the market. The reason cleaning is so important is that it shows buyers you care about your home; that also means you most likely performed all the maintenance it needed over the years.

Home Staging Secret #2: Declutter Ruthlessly

You want buyers to see that there will be ample space in your home for all of their belongings, which means you need to declutter everything you can. A good rule of thumb is to remove everything you haven’t used in six months or more. you don’t have to get rid of those items, but you should consider putting them in storage or keeping them with a friend until you move into your new home.

Home Staging Secret #3: Rearrange Your Furniture

If your furniture isn’t already arranged in a way that showcases clear walking paths and easy mobility around your home, now is the time to rearrange it. Additionally, if you have an old recliner or loveseat that’s seen better days, it may be time to stick it in storage until your home sells.

Home Staging Secret #4: Empty Your Closets

Emptying your closets completely would be a bit dramatic, and it wouldn’t help you sell your home. However, you should remove at least a third of your clothing from your closets, make sure there’s nothing on the floors, and ensure that all shelving is neat as a pin. Put your clothing in storage until you move into your new home. Doing so will help ensure that buyers can see how spacious your closets are and feel more comfortable knowing that they’ll be able to fit their own clothing inside, as well.

Home Staging Secret #5: Bring in Plants

A few plants can go a long way in home staging. Lush greenery makes a home feel livelier, which is something that buyers love to see. Don’t go overboard – it’s a people house, not a greenhouse – but consider adding a plant or two to the living room, kitchen, and maybe even the bathrooms.
