How to Make a Summer Wreath For A Few Dollars

How to Make a Summer Wreath For A Few Dollars

Everyone wants a gorgeous wreath for their front door, but most people are pretty stunned by the price-tag of these wreaths at their local florist or craft store. A wreath that matches the season is the perfect statement for your home – but can be very expensive if you live in an area that has all four seasons. Fortunately, you don’t have to shell out hundreds of dollars or even be particularly crafty to create a beautiful wreath that is perfect for all seasons.

How to Make a Summer Wreath For A Few Dollars

  • Get a grapevine wreath
  • Get a pair of crafting shears
  • Collect artificial flowers, dried flowers, ribbon, evergreen, etc.
  • get a roll of thin crafting wire
  • buy a wreath hook

You can buy a Grapevine Wreath at a discount store for a few dollars, or you can pick one up even cheaper at a yard sale. It may have old decorations on it that you don’t care for, but they can be pulled off and discarded without much effort. The size of the grapevine wreath is up to you, but make sure its not so big that the width is larger than your door and that it will fit behind a storm door. Grapevine lasts for a long time, but it can succumb to dry-rot after years, so make sure it seems sturdy and not falling apart. If you’d like your wreath to have a scent, you could even mist some of your favorite essential oil on it.

Make sure to get a good pair of crafting shears. This may be your biggest expense, but remember that they will be used many times as you change the look of your wreath (or for any other crafting needs). Get a pair that can cut through ribbon, artificial flower stems, real flower stems, and crafting wire.

Collect items you like – sprigs of eucalyptus from a discount store, ribbon from a discount bin, and don’t forget your own flower beds and gardens! Daisies and roses can be dried to make pretty touches on a wreath. Otherwise, some evergreen from a Christmas tree, some holly, or other seasonal items are found at crafting stores, grocery stores, florists, and nurseries. Tip: Some nurseries will give you their “trimmings” for free (they were going to throw them out anyway!) You can make a simple bow, or you can watch “how to make a bow” tutorials on YouTube for more sophisticated looks.

Gather everything you want to put on your grapevine wreath and practice how you want to arrange it. Often it’s visually overwhelming to decorate the entire wreath, so choose one side to decorate, or even the lower half of one side. Use the crafting wire to secure your items in place. This makes it easy to change when you’re ready to change seasons as well.

Buy a wreath hook at a crafting or discount store and you’re ready to go!
